Braida Awards
22/12/2009

Another wonderful vintage, the 2007 gave us a Barbera Bricco della Bigotta recently awarded with the Tre Bicchieri on the wine guide Vini d’Italia 2010 (by Gambero Rosso)....and not only..... Parker mentions : ROBERT PARKER’S WINE ADVOCATE 2009 - ISSUE 184-185/2009 BRAIDA is an excellent source for the wines of Asti. The 2007 Monferrato Rosso IL BACIALE’ (60% Barbera,20%Pinot Noir,10% Cabernet Sauvignon,10% Merlot) is a generous, medium-bodied wine bursting with fruit. A soft, caressing wine, Il Bacialè is best enjoyed in its exuberant youth . The 2007 Barbera d’Asti MONTEBRUNA is a deep, earthy wine imbued with dark cherries, licorice and spices. Some rough edges remain, the Montebruna should offer very fine drinking at the dinner table. The 2008 Moscato d’Asti VIGNA SENZA NOME is an understated, fragrant Moscato Made in a moderately sweet style. A long, clean finish rounds out this great wine. The estate’s 2008 BRACHETTO D’ACQUI offers up candied cherries, roses and spices in a medium bodied style. It’s a delicious version of Piedmont’s famous sweet red sparkling wine. These are two beautiful wines from Braida, the estate that put barrels-aged Barbera on the map in a big way. The 2006 Barbera d’Asti BRICCO DELLA BIGOTTA offers up black cherries, violets, spices, minerals and licorice on a firm, mid-weight frame. The wine retains gorgeous freshness and clarity throughout, showing terrific balance in a somewhat rustic yet pleasing style.92/100 The 2006 BRICCO DELL’UCCELLONE reveals a touch more ripeness and inner perfume than Bigotta yet shows similar clarity and precision. While made in a soft, opulent style, in this vintage Bricco dell’Uccellone is a touch more restrained than has sometimes been the case, resulting in a wine that is noteworthy for its finesse and elegance. Sweet scents of French oak, smoke, licorice and jammy dark fruit linger on the clean, refreshing finish.92/100

Gambero Rosso about Broglia
22/12/2009

VINI D'ITALIA 2010 GAMBERO ROSSO Gavi docg del Comune di Gavi Bruno Broglia 2008 TRE BICCHIERI (THREE GLASSES) One of the most beautiful wineries in southern Piedmont, historically engaged in the enhancement of the Cortese grape and the principal wine of these fascinating hills: Gavi. The style is decidedly classic, with no intervention on the vineyard or in the cellar that can undermine the purity of this white which has not experienced the market crisis and continues to be appreciated in the best international fine dining establishments. The Bruno Broglia selection ’08 is at its best, easily attaining the Tre Bicchieri symbol: straw-yellow in colour with greenish hints it is very intense on the nose, mineral, with flint stone and white fruit up-front; of meaty substance on the palate, with austere and rigid finish, very clean. The Meirana ’08 is a touch simpler and fruitier, with delightful wild flowers up-front; rather round on the palate and a finish where a refreshing acidity comes to the fore once again. The Roverello ’08 is simple and fruity, even a little too plush, but always a delight to savour. In the next edition we will speak about the reliable winery red, which is due for release soon.
